THE SANFL will be excited by the prospect of pulling some big crowds for the remainder of the SANFL Statewide Super League Finals Series, with three of the four largest crowd-drawing teams still playing.

Norwood, Glenelg and Port Adelaide were ranked second, third and fourth for the number of fans through the gates, while Sturt - who were defeated by Norwood in last week’s elimination final - were the most watched team in season 2019.

Port hosted the largest crowd in the minor rounds this year, when the Magpies clashed with the Double Blues in the Round 9 blockbuster at Alberton Oval.

A total of 5270 fans saw Charlie Dixon return to competitive football by kicking a bag of five goals, as the Magpies defeated Sturt by 20 points in a very entertaining game of football.

Co-captain Ollie Wines also played in the game, collecting 32 disposals, 10 tackles and six clearances, while two-time Magarey Medallist Zane Kirkwood was brilliant for the visitors with 34 touches.

Channel Seven’s coverage of the SANFL double-header on Saturday was the standout coverage of the week. A total of 232,000 people tuned into Port’s 30-point qualifying final victory over Adelaide, with a peak audience of 107,000.

An average audience of 47,000 people saw Norwood hold off the Double Blues by 14 points, with the match reaching a total of 170,000 viewers.

Port Adelaide’s opponent for Sunday afternoon’s semi final, Glenelg, featured in three of the five highest attended games throughout the year.

The Tigers’ clash with the Magpies in Round 8 was the third-highest crowd in 2019, with 4329 people heading to the Bay to see Glenelg win by 49 points.

Glenelg hosted three of the seven games to reach more than 4000 people in the SANFL competition this year.

The SANFL and Channel Seven will be expecting similar, if not better, statistics for this weekend’s blockbuster semi final double-header.

Adelaide hosts Norwood at Adelaide Oval from 12.15pm on Sunday afternoon, while Glenelg and Port Adelaide will do battle from 3.15pm for the chance to be the first team to book a spot in this year’s grand final.
