portadelaidefc.com.au crunches the numbers after Sunday afternoon’s NAB Cup openers against the Saints and Crows at AAMI Stadium.

The Power had several regular and impressive contributors in both games including Angus Monfries, Kane Cornes, Matthew Broadbent and Kane Mitchell, while Brad Ebert, Chad Wingard and Jake Neade (who were rested in the second match) were impressive against St Kilda.

End Game – Power v Saints

A clinical Port Adelaide dismantled the tiring Saints in the midfield and took out the largest win so far of the NAB Cup, with impressive contributions from Jake Neade and Chad Wingard as well as the usual suspects in prolific ball-winners Brad Ebert, Kane Cornes and Matthew Broadbent.

The 50-point win to the Power was brought about by its supreme midfield – accruing over 50% of the Saints final disposal tally – and making the most of its forward 50 entries. The Power’s ability to rebound from defence and move the ball through the middle certainly helped bump those numbers up, and with excellent goal kicking accuracy was able to skip away in the second half.

End Game – Power v Crows

Despite a late second-half surge the Power was unable to catch a fresher Crows side and went down by 16 points in the twilight game at AAMI Stadium. Angus Monfries was lively for the Power while Aaron Young and Kane Mitchell provided some of Port’s best midfield run.

The Crows led the Power in the majority of statistics and if not for inaccurate performance in front of goals would have probably won by more. Port’s opportunities at its own scoring end were limited, however it made those chances count through its four goal kickers.
