PORT Adelaide's season has begun with a 75-point loss to the reigning premiers at Etihad Stadium, but the margin flattered Collingwood, which during the third quarter was under siege by the young Power outfit.

Port briefly matched it with the flag favourites in the first quarter, and bravely surged back into the contest in the third, but was overwhelmed by periods of sheer brilliance by the Magpies.

A 10-goal run straddling the first and second quarters spurred Collingwood to its 24.11 (155) to 12.8 (80) win, but a 58-point lead late in the second quarter was whittled to 16 points at the 22-minute mark of the third as Port slammed on six goals to one after the long break.

Collingwood then flexed its muscles with four unanswered goals before three-quarter time to stretch the lead to 42 points, and further extended the margin in the final term.
