TROY Chaplin learned a very valuable lesson on Saturday night - don’t let Jeremy Howe get a run up at a marking contest.

Chaplin was the man standing Howe in the third quarter when he took yet another contender for mark of the year, with many media pundits suggesting this one is his best yet.

The defender took to Twitter to remind himself of what to do next time he matches up on the Melbourne high-flyer.

@troychaplin30: “Note to self. Block Jermey Howe’s run at the ball next time. #cantakeagrab #markoftheyearagain… #wow”

Chaplin tried to spoil from behind but was helpless as Howe used teammate Stefan Martin and Power defender Alipate Carlile as a stepladder, which prompted Bobby to respond to his teammate’s tweet.

@AlipateCarlile: “@troychaplin30 I’m a chance to get on a poster. #thankschappy #markoftheyearagain”

The third member of the tall timber down back, Jackson Trengove, also chipped in, letting Bobby know he’s a certainty to be on a poster, but for all the wrong reasons.

@JacksonTrengove: “@AlipateCarlile @troychaplin30 it’s not a chance Pate (Bobby), 100% lock it in, you will be mate (on a poster) #chappydontlethimjump”

One fan put a positive spin on Carlile’s involvement in the mark, suggesting he may get a ride in the car Howe could win for his incredible leap.

@markuselan87: “Do you at least get a drive/ride in Jeremy Howe’s new car for being the ladder?? #markoftheyear #AFL”

One thing is for sure - the next time Chappy lines up on Howe, he won’t be getting a run and jump at any marking contest.
