Connor Rozee has described his surgery as a "best-case scenario"

PORT ADELAIDE forward Connor Rozee is hoping to be back running within two weeks after having surgery to clean out some scar tissue next to a joint on his right foot.

The 21-year-old impressed in his three pre-season hit-outs booting ten goals and showing no signs of being impaired by the injury.

But upon his arrival back in Adelaide after having the operation in Sydney on Tuesday, Rozee explained he was uncomfortable at times throughout the pre-season.

“I’m very relieved,” he explained. “It’s been niggling me throughout the pre-season.

“We thought there was a possibility of me getting through it without having to have surgery but I’m really happy with how the club handled things and hopefully I can be back for the majority of the season now.

“I should be running in a couple of weeks I think, which is pretty soon. I think I just have to let the scar heal and then I’ll be back running.”

Rozee missed a handful of games in 2020 with a plantarfascia injury in the same foot but is no longer hampered by that.

The joint issue only materialised after the club’s internal trial and was described by a specialist as unusual.

“It ended up being the best-case scenario,” Rozee said of the resulting surgery.

“I didn’t have to have any extra stuff done that we didn’t want to have done so I think it’s going to be about three or four weeks until I’m back so that’s the best-case scenario.

“I guess it’s just good to have this ongoing issue sorted now and I’ll be good for the rest of the season.

“I could have tried to push through it and maybe miss some games during the season or just get it done now so it was just better to have it done.”

Rozee looks unlikely to be available for Port Adelaide’s Round 1 game against North Melbourne on Sunday 21 March but is targeting a return soon after.
