PORT ADELAIDE SANFL captain Cam Sutcliffe has expressed his pride at being named the vice-captain of the SANFL State Team for the game against the WAFL representative side this weekend.

Sutcliffe previously represented the SANFL side in 2019, when it defeated the WAFL in a seven-point thriller in Perth.

The Magpies skipper said the experience of playing with players who are regularly opponents is a good one.

“I'm pretty proud, I've had the opportunity to do it back in 2019 as well and that was a really good experience,” he said.

“We got a win as well, if we can emulate that, it'd be good.

“It's a bit different playing with the guys you go to war against each week.

“To be able to pull the jumper on alongside some of the top players in the competition is great.

“I'm not too sure where I'll play, but hopefully I'll play a bit of forward and midfield.”

Sutcliffe has been in fine form in the SANFL. He is averaging 21 disposals per game and has booted eight goals.

“It’s a little bit less stress when you're not in the AFL system, but the contracted boys this year and the boys who play with the Magpies, everyone's energy is good,” he said.

“That's been present in our efforts most weeks except for probably round one. Hopefully, we can keep it up.

“There's a fair few players who have performed this year, it'd be hard to name them all.

“Jake Weidemann, Ethan Moore, Matt Appleton, Tom Corcoran have been terrific, they've all been so good.”

The SANFL v WAFL game gets underway at 3.35pm on Saturday at Adelaide Oval, with gates open from 3.30pm.
