Identified by Port Adelaide’s recruiting team out of Cheltenham in Melbourne’s Southern League, Lai missed out on being drafted in 2023 but has gone on to become one of Port Adelaide's brightest young talents.
Debuting in 2026, Lai impressed with his pace and decision-making and immediately caught the eye of Port Adelaide fans. His rapid development quickly saw him cement his spot in Josh Carr's side, taking home the Coaches' Award for the most improved player to cap off his whirlwind year.
