A former Port Adelaide junior, the Thevenard-raised big man returned to the club through free agency in 2018 after winning that year’s AFL premiership with West Coast. Having initially shared the lead ruck duties with John Cahill Medallist Paddy Ryder in his first year at the club, he assumed the mantle when Ryder departed and averaged 23 hit-outs per game in 2020.
Lycett played his 100th game in 2020 in the Round 11 win over eventual premiers Richmond. The reliable big man has formed a good partnership with Peter Ladhams in the ruck but they have young Sam Hayes waiting for his opportunity, and it remains to be seen as to whether the club elects to play two ruckmen in 2021. A reserves premiership player with Port Adelaide, Lycett remains a fan favourite for his physical team-first approach on the field and his glorious moustache.
