ALIPATE Carlile and Jimmy Toumpas will be Australia Post AFL Multicultural Ambassadors in 2016.
The Power duo were announced at the program’s launch for 2016 on Thursday.
Carlile, a veteran defender of Fijian heritage and midfielder Toumpas, whose family is Greek Cypriot have previously served as ambassadors and will continue to work within culturally diverse communities this year.
They will ramp up their promotion of the game’s commitment to diversity in Round 16 when it holds its annual Multicultural Round.
The Power will play Hawthorn at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday 7 July as part of that round.
“I’m really proud to continue with the Australia Post AFL Multicultural Program, it’s great to give something back,” Carlile told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“Footy was really important to me growing up in country Victoria, it helped me settle into Australian culture being from a Fijian family.
“To be able to work with other kids from similar walks of life means a lot, especially to help them feel part of Aussie culture and confident to be part of footy.”
“It’s great to keep part of the multicultural ambassador program this year now that I’m back in SA,” Toumpas said.
“Footy was a big part of my upbringing and my family loves it like so many other migrant families, it’s something really important.”
