PORT ADELAIDE will go into its season opener against Brisbane with only a handful of players on its injury list.

Forward Charlie Dixon will be given every chance to play following ankle surgery last month and will need to train well this week to be in line for selection. Coach Ken Hinkley has previously indicated no risks will be taken with the return of last year’s leading goalkicker.

Defender/Midfielder Miles Bergman is close to returning to the field following shoulder surgery in December. The 20-year-old has returned to contact training and is expected to be available for selection next week.

Trent Dumont could be available to feature in Saturday’s SANFL trial game against North Adelaide after completing the AFL’s concussion protocols while first-year midfielder Hugh Jackson is a chance to play his first game for the club against his former side after completing his rehabilitation following hip surgery.

Tom Clurey, Orazio Fantasia and Kane Farrell remain sidelined following respective knee surgeries.

Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name its side for Saturday’s Round 1 game against the Lions at the Gabba.

The game will get underway at 7:10pm local time or 7:40pm ACDT.
