RYAN BURTON will play his 100th AFL game in Sunday afternoon’s Round 5 clash with Carlton.

A high draft pick, Burton has overcome a serious knee injury and other body niggles to become one of the club’s most consistent performers, renowned for his speed, class by foot and ability to play tall or small in the backline.

Here are some numbers to help you impress your friends about the 25-year-old’s career so far:

19 – Touted as a high draft pick, a broken leg ahead of his draft year meant Burton was overlooked until Hawthorn grabbed him at pick 19 in the 2015 AFL National Draft. Port Adelaide’s first pick came with Riley Bonner at pick 37 that year.

180 – Burton was the 180th player to represent Port Adelaide at AFL level. His club debut came in a 26-point win over Melbourne at the MCG in Round 1 2019. The then 22-year-old finished with 26 disposals and five tackles. He played 16 games that season, winning eight of them.

47 – Burton played 47 games with Hawthorn between 2016 and 2018, winning 25, losing 21 and being involved in one draw.

59.09 – Burton’s winning percentage in his 99 games.

9 – Burton has booted nine goals in his 99 games so far and none since Round 16, 2019. His best individual haul was a two-goal effort against Adelaide for the Hawks in Round 14, 2017.  He has also recorded 16 behinds in his 99 games.

35– Burton wore the number 35 in his first season and first four AFL games with Hawthorn in 2016. He then shifted into number five with the Hawks for 43 games and then transferred into the number three at Port Adelaide for his remaining 52 games.

2 – Burton has polled just two Brownlow Medal votes in his 99 games and none while playing for Port Adelaide. He was awarded one vote each against Brisbane and Collingwood in Rounds 8 and 15 respectively of the 2017 season.

9 – Burton has played nine games against both Adelaide and Geelong. He has not played more than seven games against any other opponent. His record against the Crows is six wins and three losses and against the Cats is five wins and four losses.

31 – Burton has played 31 of his 99 games at Adelaide Oval with an 18-13 win-loss record. The MCG is the only other venue Burton has played at more than 20 times. He has played there 26 times for 15 wins.

11 – Burton’s 99 games have come at 11 different venues including at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai (one game), York Park in Tasmania (eight games) and Carrara on the Gold Coast (five games).

1 – Burton has lost just once against this week’s opponent Carlton in six previous outings against the Blues and never in Port Adelaide colours. That loss came at Docklands while playing for Hawthorn in Round 22 of 2017 with the Blues getting up by seven points after leading all day.
