INJURIES to Zak Butters and Brynn Teakle will force Port Adelaide into at least two changes at the selection table for Sunday’s big game against the Gold Coast.

Butters suffered a sprained medial ligament in his left knee in last week’s win over Sydney while ruckman Teakle will miss 6-8 weeks after having surgery on a broken collarbone.

Port Adelaide does have the luxury of experienced midfielder Travis Boak waiting in the wings with the former captain having missed the Swans game under the AFL’s health and safety protocols but free of isolation in time to play on Sunday.

Wingman Xavier Duursma – who was the medical substitute and replaced Butters when he came off in the second quarter last week – is another who could come into the 22.

There were also some solid showings in the SANFL, namely from utility Sam Mayes, who won a team-high 33 disposals against Norwood. Mayes – who was an AFL emergency last week – had a game-high eleven clearances to go with six inside 50s and five tackles.

Teakle’s absence could lead to a recall for seven-game ruckman Sam Hayes who dominated against Redleg Harry Boyd. Hayes finished with 37 hit-outs and a clearance among his eleven disposals. He also had six marks.

First year big man Dante Visentini has been spoken about glowingly after another solid showing in which he played primarily as a forward. The 19-year-old had 12 disposals and 17 hit-outs as well as a goal as he continues his development.

Forward Steven Motlop did his chances of an immediate recall to the AFL side no harm, winning 29 disposals and seven clearances while also adding three tackles in a midfield role. The experienced and classy ball user also contributed five inside 50s and two goals.

Midfielder Taj Schofield (18 disposals, seven marks and 1.2) and defender Sam Skinner (15 disposals, six marks, two tackles and two clearances) were also solid, while Jase Burgoyne took five marks including a big pack mark as well as having 17 disposals and three tackles.

Burgoyne and Schofield continue to impress as they near AFL debuts. Both were among the AFL emergencies for last week’s game against the Swans.

Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name an extended squad for the game against the Suns before trimming it to 22 on Friday afternoon.

First bounce at Adelaide Oval on Sunday is at 3:40pm. Children under the age of 15 can get free access as part of the AFL’s Kids Go Free month.
