SOUTH Adelaide produced a strong second quarter to prevent Port Adelaide's Academy side from recording its third win of the season at Alberton Oval on Saturday, defeating the home side by 62 points.

Despite leading by 20 points late in the first quarter, and starting as the better side, scoring the first four goals, Port Adelaide lost its advantage well before half time.

A seven goal haul to the Panthers side, which only allowed the Magpies to score one major for the second term, saw the visitors turn an eight-point quarter time deficit to a 30 point lead at the main break.

The Magpies however dominated early through the likes of Ben Beioley, Danny Butcher and Sean Davidson whose defensive pressure was at a high.

Tom Corcoran proved he could be just as effective up forward as he could down back and was first to put major through for the home side following a free kick.

Despite the relentless pressure and continual hard work, Port Adelaide's ball handling skills let them down and South Adelaide was able to capitalise, proving to be bit more effective with its disposal of the ball.

Two quick goals to the visitors, including one on the quarter time siren cut the margin to just eight points.

The Panthers started the second quarter the way Port Adelaide began the first.

The visitors more than doubled the Magpies' inside 50s recording 20 entries to just the one for Magpies during the quarter, as Port Adelaide struggled to halt South's hard run and break out of their strong tackles.

But, Port Adelaide's effort could not be faulted.

As had been the way for most of the season thus far, the black and white was unable to be rewarded for the efforts of the young chargers and their willingness to never give up.

The Magpies were however plagued by inaccurate kicking in the third term, as the side attempted to create opportunities and spark a come back.

Port Adelaide conceded 2.6 in the third term, putting any chance of a come-from behind win away.

Despite dominating play in the first and third term, it was the Panthers' second and fourth quarter performance, - as South held the Magpies to just one goal in the final term, that secured the victory.

Ben Beioley was the home side's only multiple goal scorer with two and Ben Sawford and Tom Corcoran were two of the Magpies' most consistent players, recording 18 and 16 disposals respectively.

The loss was a disappointing result for the young Magpies side, after last week's narrow win and displaying glimpses of promise and skilful football against the Panthers.

Port Adelaide's Academy side face a tough task next week, when it takes on North Adelaide, which sits top on the SANFL reserves ladder.
