A GALLANT Port Adelaide was no match for a clinical Geelong outfit at Simonds Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Several key statistical areas were led by Port, but a considerable early deficit proved too great for the visitors to overcome.

Port's clearance work was first rate, leading the clearances by a considerable 43 to 30. Travis Boak and Robbie Gray had eight clearances each.

This can be credited to the ruck work of Matthew Lobbe, who amassed 59 hitouts for the day in a career-best performance.

The control of the hit outs and clearances confirmed the young midfield brigade can match it with the best in the competition, as evidenced by these performances.

But that dominance at stoppages wasn't translated onto the scoreboard with Geelong enjoying more inside 50 entries and a better conversion rate.

Angus Monfries kicked a career-best seven goals in a good continuation of his recent form.

Monfries took five marks inside the forward 50 – the most of any Power player while accumulating 19 disposals - 11 of them contested.

Other notable players included Kane Cornes with 26 disposals and Justin Westhoff who took 10 marks along with his 20 touches.
