Port Adelaide will take on cross-town rival Adelaide in its opening game of the 2023 AFLW season and will host two twilight matches at Alberton Oval.

The opening weekend will feature the flagship Showdown fixture at Norwood Oval, during the men’s bye weekend, before AFL finals begin.

The Power will have the opportunity to display Alberton Oval as one of the best women’s football grounds in the country, hosting two twilight matches under lights.

The family-friendly Saturday afternoon timeslot will be lit up by the venue’s four brand new, broadcast-quality light towers for games against Sydney in Round 6 and Gold Coast in Round 8.

The side won’t be required to travel until Round 3 when it takes on St Kilda at RSEA Park in Melbourne.

Lauren Arnell’s team will also play Season 8 rematches against West Coast, North Melbourne, Gold Coast, and fellow expansion sides Hawthorn and Sydney.

The first home game at Alberton for the season will see last year's grand finalist Brisbane travel to Adelaide for the first meeting between the sides.

The club will close its home-and-away season against Greater Western Sydney at Alberton on a date yet to be confirmed.

“We are really excited about the season ahead as we approach our second season in the competition,” said Port Adelaide Head of AFLW Juliet Haslam.

“We take a level of confidence into the campaign, knowing our side has had its first full pre-season together and we have some talented and experienced recruits that have strengthened our group.

“This is a great fixture for our supporters and commercial partners, particularly with the opportunity to showcase our new lights at Alberton Oval twice during family friendly timeslots.”

The AFL has also confirmed it will celebrate the rich contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent in the AFLW across Rounds 7 and 8, while Pride Round will take place in Round 10.
