Port Adelaide selected Ewan Mackinlay with its second pick (pick 11) in the mid-season rookie draft on Wednesday night.
Hailing from the North Adelaide SANFL system, Mackinlay boasts genuine AFL traits, including speed, power and good run and carry.
The 21-year-old has played 21 games at SANFL level over the past two years, and has averaged 17.1 disposals, three tackles and three marks from seven games in 2025.
A Lavington Football Club product from the Ovens and Murray League in NSW, Mackinlay finished 2023 as runner-up best and fairest for the club and tied first for leading goalkicker.
He relocated to South Australia ahead of the 2024 season and went on to win the Roosters’ young player of the year award.
“Ewan’s game has evolved this season, rotating between forward and midfield roles,” National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker said.
“He has bursts of speed and agility and is able to work into space. Ewan also shows good game sense to set up scoring opportunities with and without the ball.”
Mackinlay joins Glenelg’s Harrison Ramm at Port Adelaide, who was selected with the club’s first pick in the mid-season draft.
Previously, Port Adelaide has chosen Cam Sutcliffe (2019), Jed McEntee (2021), Brynn Teakle (2022), Quinton Narkle (2023) and Logan Evans (2024) in the mid-season rookie draft.
