Young winger Jase Burgoyne has put pen to paper and signed on with Port Adelaide for a further four years.

The fresh deal takes the 21-year-old through to at least the end of 2029, with the father-son selection one of the cub’s most improved players over the last two seasons.

In 2024 he was awarded the Power’s coaches’ award, and was named in the extended squad for the AFL PA’s 22under22.

Now donning the famous number seven guernsey – which his dad Peter wore for 10 seasons, including in the 2004 premiership – Burgoyne has developed his role from an up-and-coming defender into a reliable winger.

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps said Burgoyne’s growth and commitment has seen him earn his extension.

“It’s been great watching Jase grow his game, especially over the last two seasons,” Cripps said.

“Jase has continued to act on feedback from his coaches with the right attitude, and has taken every opportunity to learn and improve his football.

“His defensive acts, two-way running and work in the air are important aspects of his role, and we can see plenty more growth in the future for Jase.”

Burgoyne is currently enjoying a career-best year, averaging 20 disposals, 5.3 marks and 2.6 inside-50s from 16 games.

A smooth-mover who boasts running speed and silky skills, Burgoyne’s playing style is somewhat reminiscent of his father, who played 240 games for Port Adelaide.

“I’m really excited to stay on for four more years,” Burgoyne said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club so far and have made some great friendships over the journey. I’m loving how the coaches have helped my role evolve, so I can impact for the team as much as possible.

“We have such a great young group and I feel like there is a lot to look forward to.”

Burgoyne arrived at Alberton in the 2021 national draft with pick 60 as a father-son selection and has played 52 AFL games so far in his short career.
