Yartapuulti senior coach Lauren Arnell said her side was left disappointed after Waalitj Marawar came from behind to claim the four points at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the media post-game, Arnell admitted that despite a strong start, the Power’s Round 4 loss was the result of losing contested possession in the second half, poor ball movement, and a breakdown in contest shape.

Arnell on the loss against Waalitj Marawar
“We got beaten in the contest, unfortunately. It was even in contested possession at half time, and the Eagles clearly worked harder than we did for longer. Our whole group is exceptionally disappointed, certainly in our second half. We believe our ability to compete is better than that, and we didn’t turn up for long enough today.”

“We have a great group of people, and right now we’re exceptionally disappointed in the effort - particularly that second half and the last quarter overall. I think we were minus 17 contested possessions, and that’s one of the most important stats in winning a game of footy, and something we pride ourselves on, so we’re pretty disappointed right now.”

“I thought we started okay, and credit to the Eagles - they’re putting together some really strong footy and have had a couple of really good wins in a row here. From our perspective, we’re disappointed that we didn’t show up in the contest for long enough today. Our ball movement could have been better at times, we lost contest shape regularly, but when our forwards were on the move, we did look quite dangerous.”

Arnell on competing at the centre bounce
“Matilda (Scholz) dislocated her finger very early in that first quarter, which I think did impact her at times, and I thought the Eagles did really well at centre bounce. I’m not sure of the numbers, but it felt like the dominance we certainly had the last couple of weeks we didn’t have in there. Her dislocation was a bit of a nasty one, but she seems okay.”
