Port Adelaide AFLW co-vice-captain Julia Teakle has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping her at the club until the end of 2027.
An inaugural player, Teakle made her AFLW debut in 2022 and quickly established herself as one of Port Adelaide’s most talented forwards.
A natural born leader, the 22-year-old was named as part of the emerging leadership group in 2023, before being appointed co-vice-captain alongside Amelie Borg ahead of the 2025 season.
Teakle’s on-field performances have been recognised with the Coaches’ Award at the club’s Best and Fairest in 2023 and a spot in the league’s 22under22 final team in 2024.
While injuries limited her game time this year, Teakle’s influence from the sidelines remained significant, with her leadership and warm, supportive nature helping guide the Power’s young list.
Teakle said she was thrilled to continue her journey at Alberton.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be a Port Adelaide player for another two years. I love this football club and this playing group, so to have the security of pulling on the jumper until 2027 is really special,” Teakle said.
“I’ve faced some challenges with injury this year, but it’s been amazing to still be part of the group and contribute from the sidelines.
“I’ve been here from the start, and I know that we are building something special. We’ve grown so much as a group over the last four seasons, and I feel very grateful that I can continue to be a part of that.
“While I haven’t been able to have much impact on the field, it’s made me even hungrier to get after it in 2026.”
Port Adelaide’s Head of AFLW Shane Grimm said Teakle’s re-signing was a significant show of commitment from one of the club’s respected leaders.
“Julia has been with us since our inaugural AFLW season and is such an important part of our program, both on and off the field,” Grimm said.
“She’s a natural leader who sets high standards and embodies what it means to be a Port Adelaide player.
“Despite her setbacks this year, she’s continued to lead with great positivity and professionalism, and we’re thrilled to have her continue with us through to 2027.”
After overcoming a foot injury sustained in the pre-season, Teakle will play her first game of the season against the Giants this Saturday in Sydney.
