PORT ADELAIDE stalwart Tom Logan has hung up the boots after 11 seasons of AFL football.

The fan favourite, loved by Port’s fans for his hard attack on the football throughout his career, played 117 AFL games after debuting for the Brisbane Lions in 2005, ironically against the Power.

He was then taken by Port Adelaide in the 2006 Rookie Draft and built himself into a classic hard-nosed defender.

Placed back on Port Adelaide’s rookie list for the 2015 season, Logan was tasked with a special on-field role by Ken Hinkley to mentor the club’s young defenders in the SANFL.

He departs Port Adelaide as a player with 114 AFL and 37 SANFL matches to his name at Alberton.

Logan told portadelaidefc.com.au he enjoyed his final year as a player mentor and on-field leader for the Magpies.

“I love this club and all the boys I’ve played with and have enjoyed every minute of my time at Port Adelaide,” Logan said.

“The club gave me a chance 10 years ago, I’ll always be grateful for that and I’ve got so many great memories and friendships.

“And over the past two years I’ve really enjoyed having a different role, teaching the younger players and trying to help get them ready for AFL football.

“I just want to thank all the players, coaches, volunteers and fans for their support and I’ll be a Port Adelaide person forever.”

Logan also drew the praise of coach Ken Hinkley, who described Logan as one of the club’s hardest workers.

“Tom is one of the most hard-working, selfless players I’ve coached,” Hinkley said.

“He just gives everything he has for the football club and embodies what Port Adelaide is.’’

Notable among Logan’s achievements are his acclaimed runner-up finish in the club’s 2011 John Cahill Medal count.

In that season, Logan was a consistent, hard-working performer and won the club’s coaches’ award.

His retirement came as the Power confirmed eight list changes following its review of the 2016 season.

As well as the retirements of Logan and 300-gamer Kane Cornes during the season, the Power delisted Mitch Harvey, Jarrad Redden and Mason Shaw, along with rookies Sam Russell and Johan Wagner.

International rookie Daniel Flynn was also formally removed from the Power’s list, having departed Alberton ahead of the 2015 season.
