PRECISELY four years after his famous ‘leg break’ goal against the Crows, Angus Monfries has been confirmed to play his first game of AFL football since Round 22, 2015.

That will mean Monfries has spent 708 days – or almost two years – absent from AFL sanctioned matches.

He along with teammates Paddy Ryder were embroiled in the year-long suspension from AFL-affiliated games that befell 34 past and present Essendon players in 2016.

Monfries is a Showdown hero (at least at Alberton) after his incredible goal against the Crows in Showdown 35 broke the hearts of the majority Adelaide-supporting home crowd in 2013.

The 30-year-old is one of two inclusions into Port’s line-up, with Aidyn Johnson also joining the side.

They replace Matthew Broadbent (ankle) and Matt White (omitted).

Brendon Ah Chee and Dan Houston were both named in Port’s Thursday squad and will play for the club against South Adelaide on Saturday.

White will not play in that game, and is to be held over as an emergency.

Port Adelaide plays Adelaide at 4.10pm on Sunday 6 August at the Adelaide Oval.
