Amon recommits to Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide midfielder Karl Amon has extended his stay at Alberton Oval until at least 2022.

MIDFIELDER Karl Amon has recommitted to Port Adelaide, securing his future at Alberton until the end of the 2022 season.

Amon, 24, resisted the lure of clubs in his home state of Victoria to agree to terms on a three-year contract extension with the Power.

The wingman, drafted by Port from Sandringham with pick 68 in 2013, had a career best season in 2019, averaging 20 disposals, four marks and three tackles per game.

“I’ve never been more settled than I am right now in Adelaide,” Amon said.

“There was some interest back home but I wanted to make the best decision for my footballing future and I feel like I’ve done that.

“The club has shown a lot of faith in me over the years and I knew it was the right fit for me going forward.

“Although we’re disappointed to not be competing in the AFL finals series, I feel as though the group is on the right path. We have shown we can beat the best but we obviously need to be more consistent, and the more we play together the better we’ll be.”

Since making his AFL debut in 2015, the left footer has played 59 games, including 17 in 2019.

“With greater opportunity this year, Karl has become an important member of our midfield unit with his run and speed,” said General Manager – Football, Chris Davies.

“His ability to get up and down the ground and to hit targets and the scoreboard showed through in 2019 and we believe he has more improvement to come.

“He is a great person to have within our playing group and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him at the club for at least another three years.”
