PORT ADELAIDE premiership player Greg Anderson has been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame at Monday night’s Magarey Medal count.

Anderson played 150 games for the Magpies across two stints at the club from 1983-87 and 1995-97, was a member of the 1995 and 1996 premiership sides, and is the club’s 39th inductee into the SA Football Hall of Fame.

The wingman won the 1986 Magarey Medal with 25 votes - ahead of West Torrens’ Andrew Payze (20 votes) and North Adelaide’s Matthew Campbell (18) - at just 20 years of age.

In 1987, Anderson was again rewarded for his individual year, receiving the first of his two All-Australian selections, before making his move to the Victorian Football League.

The skilful left-footer was picked up by Essendon, where he managed 103 games and 60 goals, before returning to South Australia where he played four seasons for Adelaide in the Australian Football League.

At the Crows, Anderson was named on the wing of the All-Australian team in his first season at the club, eventually racking up 59 games and 19 goals in his time at West Lakes.

He was also named best afield in the 1993 State of Origin clash against Western Australia at Football Park, in which South Australia prevailed by 42 points.

Anderson was joined by Peter Motley and Bill Mayman as inductees into the South Australia, Football Hall of Fame.
