Port Adelaide supplemental selection period pair Mitch Zadow and Balyn O’Brien have each been rewarded with a one-year contract extension through 2027.

Zadow and O’Brien were signed together in the 2025 pre-season after a successful train-on period over the summer.

After making his debut in Round 4 against Richmond, Zadow came back into the side in Round 16 and kept his spot until the end of the season, aside from missing one game through illness.

The tough 22-year-old kicked eight goals this season including a three-goal haul against top-of-the-table Fremantle.

A hard worker on and off the field, the East Fremantle product thrives on pressure and contest.

O’Brien is a wiry but strong defender who is tough in the contest and can run all day.

The 19-year-old debuted at AFL level in Round 19 against the Dockers and went on to play every game for the rest of the year.

In 2025, O’Brien played every possible game in South Australia’s winning under 18 national championships campaign, but was overlooked in the national draft.

The teenager worked hard for his AFL opportunity and earned a debut at the top level late in the season.

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps congratulated the duo on their extensions.

“Mitch and Balyn have put their best foot forward since training with the club last pre-season,” Cripps said.

“Both earned an AFL debut this year and the coaching group were pleased with what they saw. They have shown plenty of promise in their first season as AFL players.

“With another full pre-season ahead, we look forward to seeing what they can produce in 2027.”

Additionally, young defenders Josh Lai and Harrison Ramm were also awarded one-year extensions at the end of 2025 when they were upgraded to the main list. Both players are in contract until at least the end of 2027.
