Lachie Jones and Ewan Mackinlay have both put pen to paper, each committing to Port Adelaide for a further two seasons. 

Both players will remain at the Power until at least the end of 2028, after enjoying a strong run of form in 2026. 

Jones has been rewarded following a solid year in defence, where he’s averaged 12.3 disposals, 3.5 marks and 3.5 rebound 50s from 20 games. 

Heading into his seventh and eighth seasons of AFL footy in his new contract, the 24-year-old’s strength and speed are two of his most important traits. 

Known by fans for his flowing mullet, the childhood Port Adelaide supporter has now reached 94 games at the top level, on track for his 100-game milestone next season. 

Mackinlay arrived at Alberton in last year’s mid-season draft, with the athletic and hard-running forward-turned-winger making his debut in the final home and away round of 2025. 

He was named in Josh Carr’s Round 1 team this year and kept his spot in the 23 until being struck down with a knee injury in Round 14. 

Despite his season ending early, the 23-year-old has made the most of his first 12 months in an AFL environment, earning the opportunity for an additional two years. 

Originally from Holbrook in country New South Wales, Mackinlay moved to Adelaide to ply his trade in the SANFL for North Adelaide in 2024, before eventually landing on the Power’s list. 

“We’re pleased to have Lachie and Ewan extend for two more years,” Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps said. 

“Lachie has continued to grow as a leader amongst a relatively young backline. His athleticism and ability to play both tall and small makes him an important member of our defence. 

“Ewan is an outstanding character and a selfless player who puts the team first. 

“His running capacity and willingness to play a role for the team has impressed the coaches and we look forward to seeing his ongoing development over the next couple of years.”
