Darcy Byrne-Jones has signed a one-year contract extension, with the 30-year-old to continue his AFL career in black, white and teal.  

He’ll enter a 14th season at Alberton in 2027, with his consistency and team-first attitude trademarks of his game. 

Byrne-Jones has just produced his best season statistically since 2022, averaging 20.3 disposals, 5.1 marks and 3.6 rebound 50s per game. 

Moving back into defence after the first five rounds of the season, Byrne-Jones wasted no time impacting in the backline. 

Named on the half-back flank in the 2020 All-Australian team, Byrne-Jones also won the John Cahill Medal that year, awarded to the best and fairest Port Adelaide player. 

“I love this club and I had no hesitation about signing on at Port Adelaide for another year,” Byrne-Jones said. 

“I’ve enjoyed my move back into defence this season and feel like I can continue to play a role in this team in 2027. 

“With so many young boys coming through the system now, I’ve enjoyed the chance to help lead the backline this year, particularly as we’ve implemented a new game plan. 

“I’m already looking forward to next year and seeing how we can step up as a group.” 

Byrne-Jones is fast approaching 250 games, which he could reach as early as Round 7 next year.  

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps was keen to keep the experienced player at the club. 

“Darcy has been a really important part of our team this season, and shows no signs of slowing down,” Cripps said. 

“His AFL experience is invaluable to this young group, and his work-rate and versatility have enabled him to play whatever role is needed. 

“We look forward to what he’ll bring in 2027.”
