THEY’RE the players who reached significant milestones in 2019, from those who played their 50th AFL game to 250-gamers Justin Westhoff and Travis Boak.

With their feats celebrated at the 2019 Best and Fairest event and John Cahill Medal presentation, portadelaidefc.com.au thought it would take a look at how each player fared in their milestone game.

AFL

50 games

Ryan Burton (Round 3 v Brisbane)

In a game that went against the Power, Burton acquitted himself pretty well off half back. He had 21 disposals and five marks and was one of the Power’s best on a disappointing day.

Dan Houston (Round 11 v St Kilda)

It’ll be a memorable 50th game for Dan Houston. Played in Shanghai, Houston moved into the middle to cover for the injured Tom Rockliff and was superb, recording 28 disposals and five marks and showing composure beyond his years as the Power enjoyed a 70-point win.

Karl Amon (Round 13 v Fremantle)

The Power lost another milestone game in Round 13, this time against the Dockers in Perth. For his part, Amon had 14 disposals, five marks and four tackles and was far from the side’s worst performer.

Sam Powell-Pepper (Round 13 v Fremantle)

In the same game as Amon, the midfield bull was down slightly, having 14 disposals, five tackles and a goal. But it wasn’t enough to get the Power over the Dockers over in the west.

150 games coached

Ken Hinkley (Round 14 v Geelong)

It was a big occasion for Hinkley’s 150th game as a senior coach, and 150th in charge of Port Adelaide. The side responded to a disappointing showing a week earlier against Fremantle to battle past the more fancied Cats. Geelong had lost just one game to that point in the season and against the side where he played 121 games, Hinkley’s side got him over the line for a memorable victory by 11 points.

200 games

Robbie Gray (Round 1 v Melbourne)

What a way to start the year. Celebrating Gray’s 200th AFL game at the MCG by beating a highly fancied Melbourne outfit on its home turf. Gray had 23 touches, four marks and a goal before being chaired off by good mates Travis Boak and Tom Rockliff.

250 games

Justin Westhoff (Round 2 v Carlton)

After the emotion of Robbie Gray’s 200th a week earlier to open the season, Westhoff reminded his teammates he’d never won a milestone game. They responded by getting the side over the line in Round 2 against Carlton for him. After five goals in Round 1, Westhoff had a relatively quiet, by his standards, 14 disposals, four marks and three tackles but it didn’t matter as the Power continued its unbeaten start to the season.

Travis Boak (Round 7 v Collingwood)

The Power started poorly in a goalless opening quarter and was chasing Collingwood all game. Despite a late comeback to within three goals it proved too little too late in a 39-point loss. Boak was a star with 32 possessions, six tackles and a goal continuing his brilliant start to the season.

SANFL

50 games

Cam Hewett (Round 7 v Adelaide)

It was an impressive performance by Hewett in his 50th SANFL game but one that couldn’t help his side get over a strong Adelaide side in Round 7. Hewett managed 22 disposals and eleven marks in a productive showing but it wasn’t enough as the Magpies went down by 16 points at Alberton Oval.

Matt Appleton (Round 7 v Adelaide)

Playing just his third game for the club, Appleton’s 50th milestone came at his third SANFL club and in the same game as Cam Hewett celebrated the same achievement. Appleton had 13 disposals, two marks, two tackles and a goal in a game in which his side trailed from start to finish.
