PORT ADELAIDE senior coach Ken Hinkley spoke to the media ahead of Friday night’s intra-club and season 2020.

Here are the key talking points from the press conference:

Hinkley on Jackson Mead missing the intra-club with a minor hamstring injury:

“Jackson Mead won’t play - he’s got a really, really small hamstring.

“He’s days away, but he won’t play Friday. It’s a good position to be in with 43 players available.

“We potentially could’ve pushed him, but he’s a young player and we wouldn’t do that.

Hinkley on Ollie Wines and training mishaps:

“The disappointing part is the Ollie (Wines) injury.

“But when you train like we train, as hard as we train and as aggressively as we go, then injuries are going to happen.

Hinkley on the return of Jack Watts:

“Jack (Watts) to just get out there and play is what we are looking forward to seeing.

“It’s been the same at training, just having him out there and around.

“He’s still feeling his way a little bit - we expect that to be the case. But he’s way ahead of schedule.

“We are really pleased for him and equally as excited to see him back out there.

Hinkley on the exciting prospect of last year’s draft crop playing on Friday night:

“Except for Jackson (Mead), he’ll be out.

“The other three boys will be out there playing. You should get excited about them. You should get excited.

“We had the three boys last year that were really exciting. Well there is some stuff going on out there on the training track that is as equally as exciting.

“I’m talking about the three boys we drafted, and even young Jake Pasini who we drafted on the rookie list is doing some really nice things.

“Most of the people have seen Mitch (Georgiades) take a few grabs which is pretty exciting. He’s a bit of a highlights reel, so we look forward to creating a few of them.

Hinkley on a potential round 1 debutant:

“Now they have got to earn that spot and get that spot.

“I’m not going to sit here today and tell you who that is because there is a fair bit to play through, but I’m excited by what’s coming.

“And I’ve never been frightened to put them out there.

Hinkley on the capability of Port’s list:

“We all feel good today. We always feel good at this time of the year.

“It’s exciting. We are building. There is no doubt this footy team is really building. We are building towards a premiership. We don’t hide from that.

“We know we have the list now that is really, really capable.

Hinkley’s message to fans ahead of Friday night’s intra-club hit-out:

“You should want - if you’re a Port Adelaide person - to come down and have a look.

“If you look through our pre-season, you know we’re not going to play here for a little bit.

“We are going to be away in Brisbane then away in Whyalla representing our sponsors up there, and then our first game is away.

“Your opportunity to come watch these people - I guarantee if you’re a Port Adelaide person and you’re supporting us strongly, you’ll want to get down here Friday and have a look.

“There’s a fair bit to look at.

Hinkley on Ollie Wines’ recovery and returning to training:

“Ollie is really well.

“He’s out here today - 9-10 days since his surgery. He’s back running on Monday.

“I just spoke to him upstairs. His sling comes off and he just said I can’t wait to be able to run on Monday.

“We have great knowledge, unfortunately, just with the other side. We know what worked and what didn’t quite work last year.

“He will be prepared really well and I guarantee when he comes back, he’ll be exciting.

Hinkley on Dan Houston’s permanent midfield move:

“Yep, he’s a lock.

“Put him in. Put him in the midfield when he plays his footy. It doesn’t mean he can’t go back and play in our backline.

“We see what he added to us in the midfield last year. He has trained the whole pre-season with the midfield group.

“We hope he maintains the form that he’s got and he can play in the midfield.

Hinkley on the importance of Charlie Dixon:

“Charlie (Dixon) is really important.

“He’s as important as anyone as we’ve perhaps got. We talk about the position he’s plays and the way he plays the position. Not many people can play like Charlie plays at his absolute best.

“He’s had a really tough last 12 months - everyone knows that. It’s exciting to see him out there running around, looking and playing free.

“That’s exciting for us.

Hinkley on the importance and his desire for this season:

“I love this club and I love history of this club, and this club’s history is premierships,”

“So that’s where we are starting at trying to do. We are going to start this year wanting to win the premiership in our 150th year.

“We are going to do everything we can to do that, and to do that you have to qualify for finals.

“Look out, we’re coming.”
