FoodbankSA and Port Adelaide Football Club today set a donations target of more than $400,000 for the Power to End Hunger campaign after announcing a powerful alliance with some of South Australia’s best known companies to mark the third year of a charity partnership committed to feeding hungry South Australians.

Eleven companies - Walker Corporation, Rivergum Homes, Direct Interiors, Apex Steel, Toop & Toop, V.I.P. Home Services, Direct Interiors, Le Cornu, Clipsal, the Roller Door Doctor, Presenting Beautiful Homes and the Club’s Joint Major Partner EnergyAustralia - today officially launched the Power to End Hunger home campaign which is focused on developing, building, fitting out and auctioning a new Adelaide Hills home.

Proceeds from the sale of the Power to End Hunger home will be donated to the Power to End Hunger campaign. The campaign will feature prominently at Power games at Adelaide Oval and see significant marketing to raise awareness leading into the auction later in 2014.

The partnership between Foodbank and Port Adelaide has raised more than $300,000 over the past two years to help the yearly sum of 130,000 South Australians who find it hard to make ends meet.

“Foodbank SA plays a critical role as the food hub for the welfare sector,” said Port Adelaide Chairman David Koch.

“Port Adelaide is proud to back such an important campaign, and work alongside companies that are bringing to light the real social issue of hunger.”

Construction is already underway on a uniquely designed, energy efficient Rivergum home at Bluestone Mt Barker, Walker Corporation’s premium Adelaide Hills master planned community.

Roof trusses and fencing will be supplied by Apex Steel, solar panels and a generous power plan will be donated by EnergyAustralia, the home will be decorated internally by Direct Interiors and landscaped by V.I.P. Home Services.

Once completed, the Power to End Hunger home will be auctioned by Toop & Toop Managing Director Anthony Toop with the successful bidder also receiving a cheque for $10,000 to go furniture shopping at Le Cornu.

Representatives of the companies involved in the project met with Mr Koch and Foodbank SA Chief Executive Officer Richard Pagliaro at Adelaide Oval to finalise the agreement. These representatives included:

- Walker Corporation Executive Chairman Lang Walker
- Rivergum Homes Managing Director Victor Said
- EnergyAustralia Marketing Manager Jehad Ali
- Direct Interiors General Manager Joe Bacolo
- V.I.P. Home Services Founder & Director Bill Vis
- Toop & Toop Real Estate Managing Director Anthony Toop
- Apex Steel Managing Director John Konstandopoulos
- Port Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Keith Thomas

Power players also joined 20 students from Warriappendi Secondary School at Adelaide Oval for a kick and a catch and a BBQ.

Mr Pagliaro said the home would be auctioned in October.

“Each corporate partner is working with their individual suppliers to ensure costs can be reduced where possible on supplied goods and services,” Mr Pagliaro said.

“This is the sort of generosity that can make a massive difference to those South Australians who depend on Foodbank SA and distribution agencies for support.

“We thank them for their support and look forward to working with them to bring some visibility to the project and the benefits it will bring.”
