Jonas was upgraded from the rookie list for the second time in as many years ahead of the Power's fixture against Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

His nine games at AFL level this year were backed in by numerous strong performances at the Norwood Redlegs in the SANFL where he led the defensive line as an effective centre half back.

Presented his award by Port Adelaide ruck and midfield coach Shaun Rehn, Jonas was recognised for his demonstrated qualities of being competitive, selfless and earning the trust of his team.

“Tom displayed those qualities all year playing for his SANFL club Norwood," said Rehn.

"In essence as coaches when you put names up on the board [to consider] you’ve got confidence that he's [the recipient] going to give everything he's got."

"He trained really hard … And it’s a great credit to Tommy."

Jonas' recognition with the Coaches award came after Chad Wingard was awarded the Gavin Wanganeen Medal for best player under 21 years of age.

Other nominees for the Coaches Award included Matthew Broadbent and Justin Westhoff.
