The Port Adelaide Football Club playing group have again demonstrated their commitment, making a substantial joint donation to the Back in Black debt reduction campaign. As well as helping their club work towards future success, their generosity will assist SA charities.
Every member of the squad has contributed significantly to the cause. Between them, the players have contributed more than $55,000. This is the equivalent of 11 positions among Port Adelaide’s Foundation Leaders group, the growing club of dedicated supporters who have each pledged at least $5000 to help demolish our $3 million core debt.
Port Adelaide Captain, Domenic Cassisi, says the players are committed to the cause.
“The boys are very much on board. We give our all for the club, but the club gives as much back to us. Without the club, we wouldn’t be playing the game we love,” Domenic said. “We are proud to be part of the Port Adelaide Football Club and honoured to be doing an extra bit to safeguard its future.”
Port Adelaide Football Club President, Brett Duncanson, thanked the players.
“For the guys who give so much on the field to show their commitment off of it, this is another sign of their loyalty and a measure of their faith in what we are working towards.” Mr Duncanson said.
“We celebrate the financial support of this initiative with contributions from a range of people involved with our club’s history. You will notice a number of key and past leaders of our club on the final list of Foundation Leaders and celebrate the fact they continue to be part of our future. We think this is a wonderful message to our members that our club is totally united with the past, present and future.”
The club is not alone in benefiting from the players’ contribution. They are also donating to SA charities the once-in-a-lifetime experience that comes with each of their equivalent 11 Foundation Leader positions.
A highlight among the rewards earned by every Foundation Leader will come in the Round 20 Saturday night blockbuster against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium. The name of every member of this exclusive group will be enshrined on a one-off guernsey to be worn by our players. Every Foundation Leader will receive a unique replica of this jumper. Before the game, the group will be presented to the crowd before forming a guard of honour for the team to run through. They will also enjoy a cocktail party on the night, and reserved seating.
The players have donated this experience to 11 charities. These organisations can use their gift as they chose, be it to give to a needy individual, reward a valued fundraiser or for some other purpose.
These donations are being made through Power of Dreams, the Port Adelaide Football Club’s charity arm, to the following recipients: Camp Quality, Childhood Cancer Foundation, Guide Dogs SA, Leukaemia Foundation, Little Heroes, Red Cross Blood Service, Royal Flying Doctor Service, RSL, SCOSA (Spastic Centre of SA), Starlight Children's Foundation and Time for Kids.
Port Adelaide captain, Domenic Cassisi, says the players are pleased that their donation will also help the chosen charities.
“It’s a nice way to help organisations that do so much good in our community. It’ll be a fantastic inspiration for the team to see the faces of the people who’ll get the experience that night. We’re all really pleased to be passing on something to individuals who otherwise wouldn’t get such an opportunity.”
The Foundation Leaders program is on track to be an outstanding success. Already more than 120 people have pledged their commitment. And there is still time for others to join, ahead of this Friday night’s Inner Sanctum Event at Alberton, and the Back In Black Fundraising Dinner at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
