PORT Adelaide midfielder Hamish Hartlett has been fined $2,500, with a further $2,500 suspended, for not meeting team standards in the wake of the club's 75-point loss to Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

Hartlett went out for "a few drinks" with friends after the Power players arrived back in Adelaide on Sunday night.

There's no suggestion the 20-year-old was involved in any incident, however, in a statement released by the club, Power football operations manager Peter Rohde said Hartlett had breached team standards by being out drinking.

"It was a quiet catch-up with mates, but a player's recovery must come first and his actions were outside the standards the playing group itself has set," Rohde said.

"After working so hard to put his injury frustrations behind him and to work his way back into our 22, Hamish knows he's let himself, his teammates and our supporters down.

"There is no doubt Hamish will learn from this experience and we expect that he will make better decisions in the future."

The game against Geelong at Skilled Stadium was Hartlett's first for the season.

Port Adelaide's highest-ever draft pick has played only 16 games in three years at the club because of injury.

The skilful midfielder missed the opening two rounds of this season, as he continued to regain full fitness from a pre-season hamstring complaint.

Power midfield coach Dean Laidley regards Hartlett as the best young player he's ever seen and the talented ball winner is also considered a future leader of the club.

Hartlett is free to play against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night and the suspended portion of his fine will only be enforced in the event of any further breach.
