Father-son prospect Jase Burgoyne (son of Peter) enjoyed a podium finish as the SANFL's best under-18 player.

PORT ADELAIDE father-son prospect Jase Burgoyne has finished third in the voting for the SANFL’s under 18 MVP award.

Burgoyne polled 16 votes in his 16 games for the Eagles after being named in the best players 15 times.

He finished one vote behind Norwood’s Cooper Murley and two behind the winner of the McCallum Tomkins Medal, Tom Powell from Sturt.

Among the previous winners of the medal are current Port Adelaide rookie Boyd Woodcock and former Port player Kai Pudney.

Jase Burgoyne is part of Port Adelaide’s father-son academy as the son of Port Adelaide premiership star Peter Burgoyne and he is the brother of current Power rookie Trent Burgoyne.

Jase Burgoyne was part of the Eagles 2019 U18 premiership side, alongside fellow Port Adelaide draft hopefuls Lachie Jones and Taj Schofield.

The Port District junior played six SANFL Under 18 games last year, averaging 16 disposals, and was part of the Eagles side which won the Under 18 premiership, alongside fellow Port Adelaide father-son prospect Taj Schofield and fellow NGA member Lachlan Jones.

Burgoyne’s 2020 season ended at the weekend when the Eagles’ Under 18 premiership defence was killed off by Sturt, but he was again among the best for his side with 21 touches and a goal.

At 17, Burgoyne is eligible as a father-son selection to Port Adelaide at the 2021 draft.
