Jake Weidemann celebrates his match-winning goal against South Adelaide with Sam Powell-Pepper.

PORT ADELAIDE forward Jake Weidemann has been nominated for the SANFL’s Channel 7 Goal of the Week for his match sealing long bomb against South Adelaide just over a week ago.

Weidemann played as a defensive forward against the Panthers to limit the rebound of the dangerous Jack Haines but sprung to life with three clutch goals late in the last quarter to help Port steal a stirring victory.

Weidemann’s third goal came with Port leading by a single point and the seconds ticking away. Receiving the ball just outside 50 from teammate Dylan Williams, the 21-year-old stepped back then around an opponent and launched the ball on goal.

The ball somehow evaded a bunch of hands in the goal square and bounced through.

The Goal of the Week nominees have only been announced now because of the SANFL’s split round 18.

The other weekly nominees are Jack Firns of the Eagles and Glenelg’s Darcy Bailey.

Weidemann is the fourth Port Adelaide player, behind teammates Ben Edwards in Round 4, Dylan Williams in Round 11, and Zak Butters in Round 13 to be nominated for the award.
