Port Adelaide senior coach Glenn Strachan says his side is focused on Saturday’s clash with St Kilda as the Power prepare to travel to Melbourne for their final game of the 2026 home and away season, with a mathematical chance of reaching finals still alive.

Speaking to the media ahead of the team’s final training session for the week, Strachan discussed the importance of finding consistency, the legacy of retiring veterans Kirsty Lamb and Justine Mules-Robinson, and the club’s focus on creating an environment where players want to commit to their futures at Alberton.

Strachan on Kirsty Lamb’s retirement
“I knew of Lamby before I got here. She's played in the competition for a long time, and I knew she was a great person. She’s played some really good footy in the past and did that again this year for us. I’m pleased she’s come to the decision to obviously end her football career. The fortunate thing is that she'll get to play this week and go out on a high in Melbourne, where a lot of her family are. I’m excited for her and can't wait for her to start her journey in the next part of her life.”

Strachan on the legacy Kirsty Lamb and Justine Mules-Robinson have left
“It's hard to sort of put it in one sentence, to be honest. They have taken the game from where it was in the early days to how different it is now, and I think they deserve all the credit for what the AFLW looks like nowadays. Because without them, the product isn't what it is. I have enormous gratitude for them, and lots of other players who have taken the game so far forward in only 11 seasons.”

Strachan on balancing losing two experienced players
“I think we were quite young anyway. Our average age was still pretty young, but definitely losing some experience – I think combined they've got 200 more games experience, so we lose that. But at the same time, I think our whole group's another year older. They've played another year together, so I think we're just excited to see where this group can now take us. And obviously, whatever we bring in later in the year through the trade and draft period, that's going to be a big part of our future.”

Strachan on Lauren Young’s future with Port Adelaide
“I probably haven't thought about what the possibility of losing her would be. I'm really hopeful that she sticks around. We're in a position where we're trying to create the best environment we can where people like Youngy, and lots of others, want to either stay and play their footy or come and play their footy. We've worked hard on signing a lot of our players to longer-term deals this year, so hopefully that one (Young’s contract) works itself out, and I just hope Youngy wants to keep playing her footy here at Alberton.”

Strachan on Indy Tahau’s contract with Port Adelaide
“Again, I think it's just about how can we create the environment that they want to be here, and if we can do that, then I feel confident that those players or lots of others will want to play their footy here. That’s all that I can control right now and not get too caught up in the other stuff. We’re creating that environment, and that’s evident in the long-term deals that we've already managed to get done.”

Strachan on how he’s reflecting on the 2026 campaign
“I'll reflect on it once I know we're done. I'm still steadfast on what we can achieve this week. Once that's all finished and we know that we definitely aren't playing anymore, and hopefully that’s not for another month, I'll probably start to reflect after that.”

Strachan on the mathematical chance of making finals
“We know where we're at, and we know what it takes. But I think that's probably because a lot of other people are doing the talking, and we're kind of just focusing on what we can control. I think if anything, last weekend's game and the way that we executed our roles is probably just what we need to keep chasing and keep going after the consistency. And if we end up getting there, then great. And we know other stuff needs to fall our way, but we're hopeful that that happens.”

Strachan on the AFL fixture and the potential for more double-headers for AFLW
“I think that'd be really exciting. I'm pretty confident that the AFL are heading towards what's best for the growth of the game, and that could be more double-headers. It'd be exciting, but at the same time, we love playing here at Alberton, so if we're here as much as we were this year, then that's good for us – I feel like we play some pretty good footy here. We’ll wait and see what the fixture looks like and go from there.”
