PORT ADELAIDE has announced two more re-signings with exciting defender Lachie Jones and first-year ruckman Brynn Teakle agreeing to terms on respective contract extensions.

Jones, 20, has agreed to a two-year extension, which will see him remain at the club until at least the end of 2024.

The Bute product has featured in 20 games since making his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 4, 2021.

A product of the club’s Next Generation Academy and drafted at pick 16 in the 2020 AFL National Draft after the club matched a bid for him, Jones’s explosiveness and relentless attack on the ball has seen him move forward in 2022 where he has played as a pressure forward alongside Sam Powell-Pepper.

Jones was recognised with the Round 15 Rising Star nomination after the win over Gold Coast, playing 14 games in 2022 before a hamstring injury ended his season.

“We love what Lachie brings in terms of his intensity, effort and attack on the footy,” said Port Adelaide List Manager Jason Cripps.

“We have seen him play both tall and small in the backline as well as playing forward more recently. We think with his speed, running capacity and skill set that he has the potential to play in all three areas of the ground.

“Lachie is another one of our emerging young players that make up the core of our side and we look forward to seeing the excitement he will continue to bring to Port Adelaide people over the next two seasons.”

Teakle has agreed to terms on a contract extension which will see him remain with Port Adelaide until the end of 2023.

Selected with the eighth pick in the 2022 mid-season draft, Teakle’s impact was immediate, earning his AFL debut against Sydney in Round 14 within two weeks of landing at Alberton.

While a broken collarbone cut short his debut, Teakle returned to fitness and played in the club’s most recent SANFL game, a win over Central District last week.

An athletic 204cm big man, the 22-year-old has shown an ability to play ruck or as a key position forward, kicking three goals in his SANFL debut in Round 10.

“Brynn has made a big impression in a short period of time, which is not easy when you are coming in part-way through the season,” Cripps said.

“We’ve liked what we’ve seen from him both with his ruck and forward craft, and hunt at ground level, as well as his application to his rehabilitation when he was injured.

“We think he has some attributes that suit the way we want to play and it’s a credit to Brynn that he has been able to earn a contract extension after just a couple of months with us.”

Jones’ and Teakle’s re-signings come after defenders Trent McKenzie and Jake Pasini each also recommitted to the club this week.
