CONNOR ROZEE has capped off a strong debut season by finishing second in the 2019 NAB AFL Rising Star award on Friday afternoon.
Rozee polled 42 votes in this year’s award - finishing 12 votes behind the winner Sam Walsh. Richmond’s Sydney Stack was third with 28 votes, while Port Adelaide wingman Xavier Duursma polled one vote.
Walsh received the maximum five votes from all but one judge - who gave Rozee five - after a season that saw him average 25.2 disposals, five marks, three clearances and three tackles a game.
Rozee was next best in the eyes of the judges, after getting nominated in Round 3 for his brilliant five-goal performance against Brisbane at the Gabba, in just his third game of AFL football.
The 2018 no.5 draft pick finished the year averaging 15.3 disposals, 3.5 marks, four tackles and more than a goal a game in his debut season.
Rozee’s second-place finish in the Rising Star award is the highest finish for a Power player since Sam Powell-Pepper (third) in 2017.
Danyle Pearce (2006) was the last Port player to win the award, with Michael Wilson also claiming top honours for the Power in 1997.
