Port Adelaide midfielder Jacqui Yorston has confirmed she will step away from football for 12 months.

The 22-year-old will take some time to focus on her physical and mental wellbeing and will reconsider her AFLW future at a later date.

Yorston notified her teammates of her decision over the weekend, stating it was an extremely difficult choice to make and she is grateful for the support the club and her team have offered her.

She will be moved to the inactive list for the 2023 season.

"We are proud of Jacqui for making the decision to prioritise her wellbeing," head of AFLW Juliet Haslam said.

"Jacqui will continue to be part of the Port Adelaide family and we will provide her with any support she needs throughout this time. We wish her all the very best."
