PORT ADELAIDE has completed a trade with Adelaide, welcoming Jasmine Simmons to the club in exchange for Sarah Goodwin.

Port Adelaide will also receive picks 16 and 34 to be used at the Season 8 Supplementary Draft on 4 April.

Simmons is highly athletic and a genuine utility, standing at an imposing 180 centimetres.

After playing football as a junior, she switched to basketball and spent three years in the United States playing as a guard for Oregon State University.

Originally hailing from Broken Hill, the 24-year-old tall later moved back into footy and spent two seasons with the Crows, playing eight games.

Simmons offers true versatility and can slot into most on-field positions, so far spending most of her time at Adelaide in defence and on the wing.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Jasmine to Port Adelaide,” list manager Naomi Maidment said.

“We have been mindful of needing to add height to our side, and Jasmine fits this criteria perfectly. She is also very athletic, can play nearly anywhere and is a fantastic cultural fit for our club.

“She has plenty of experience in high-level sport and we are looking forward to seeing Jasmine grow in our program.”

Glenelg product Goodwin was picked up by Port Adelaide in the AFLW Draft last year and made her debut in Round 4, when the Power defeated Sydney at Alberton.

She played five games in the AFLW season and averaged 7.6 disposals.

“We’re pleased to have given Sarah her start in AFLW and wish her all the best at her new club,” Maidment said.

“We’re grateful for the time she dedicated to our program as part of our inaugural list.”

The AFLW sign and trade period will close on Monday, March 20 at 5pm AEDT.
