Yartapuulti assistant coach Nathan Bassett is pleased with his side’s consistency after claiming a sixth consecutive match over the weekend.

The side secured an emphatic, 70-point victory over North Melbourne, with Bassett praising the versatility of the playing group, after injuries and illness forced late changes on Saturday.

Speaking with the Adelaide media on Monday, Bassett gave an injury update, spoke about what he expects from Narrm on Friday night and touched on the significance of the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Bassett on the playing group’s versatility
“I think there's some real positives in terms of the guys that came in and played a role for us. Francis Evans as a forward, after losing Darcy Byrne-Jones on the morning of the match, Kane Farrell came in and played on the wing, Boaky (Travis Boak) went forward, Meady (Jackson Mead) came in as the sub. All those guys made good contributions, so I think the depth has been a real highlight and we’ve found a couple of players (in different locations) across the ground, which has been good for our footy club.”

Bassett on Todd Marshall’s concussion
“Todd's tracking along well. He'll get some extra testing, he's in concussion protocols so clearly he'll miss this week and will hopefully be okay in the near future, which hopefully for us will be pretty soon. We’ll leave it in the doctor’s hands and they'll make the decision that's right for Todd. We will give him some extra testing, as much for him as anything so he feels comfortable when he comes back that he's right to go.”

Bassett on Charlie Dixon’s quad strain
“He'll be a test this week. He wasn’t moving brilliantly at the end of last week and we don’t think it's a significant issue, so he'll get tested and if he gets through training, he'll be right to play. It was a new little injury that he picked up at training and we think it's not significant and he should be okay this week.”

Bassett on Sir Doug Nicholls Round
“We've got the name change this week, Yartapuulti versus Narrm…so it’s exciting for the footy club. The name (Yartapuulti) comes from the area around Port Adelaide and it’s a place of rest, river rest, I'm told, which is cool. We celebrate the jumper design by Peter Burgoyne this week and hopefully we can get a big crowd. The record (for Yartapuulti versus Narrm at Adelaide Oval) is just under 41 thousand so if we can get more than that, that will be a great result for our footy club.”

Bassett on ruck options against Narrm
“We'd like to be going slightly better in the ruck. We’ve certainly been challenged by ruckmen in most games this year, whether it be in the (centre) or around the ground. I think we can cope with the ruck stuff, it’s probably as much around the ground and limiting impact for (Max) Gawn and (Brodie) Grundy when they get in front of the ball and behind the ball. The midfield has done a great job in absorbing some of the ruck hitout differential, it's a little bit more around the ground. We'll see how the week plays out. Scott (Lycett) played well yesterday (in the SANFL). We know the challenges of two rucks and the physicality that (Gawn and Grundy) will bring to the contest and around the ground with how hard they work so it's going to be a test for whichever ruck we pick.”

Bassett on Narrm’s form
“The Dees are good. They’ve been really consistent and played strong footy for the entirety of the season. They’re seven (wins) and two (losses) and they’ve been a very good side for the last three years now. We’ve got some tough games over the next five weeks leading into the bye and this is definitely one of them. It is good for us to play against the best and put our best footy out there and find out what we can learn, and where we need to improve as the season goes on.”

Bassett on tall forward options
“We're running a little low. I think Ollie Lord has come in as the younger forward and done a reasonable job in three games. We probably haven’t got anyone ready at SANFL level below that to come in as a key forward (yet).”

Bassett on Dante Visentini’s growth
Dante's in the mix of ruckmen we can pick, certainly we love his attitude, he’s a very physical ruckman. He's only a second year player and he’s still learning his craft so to play him against Gawn and Grundy is probably not the one you necessarily want first up in your AFL career as a ruckman, but we love what Dante’s doing and how he's learning and I imagine he'll get a chance at some stage soon.”
