FORWARDS Charlie Dixon and Mitch Georgiades have recommitted to the Port Adelaide Football Club, agreeing to terms on respective contract extensions.

High flying Georgiades will remain at Alberton until at least the end of 2027 having agreed a four-year extension while the experienced Dixon has extended for another 12 months.

Arriving at the club with pick 18 in the 2019 draft, Georgiades booted two goals on debut against Gold Coast in the opening round of the 2020 season and has gone on to register 65 majors in his 49 AFL games so far.

While a season-ending knee injury has put him out of action for the rest of 2023, Georgiades is working his way through the rehabilitation process and grateful to get an opportunity to remain at Alberton.

“When you look at the group we have and the relationships I’ve built, you just want to be a part of it, it’s too hard to leave that behind,” said Georgiades.

“Obviously it hasn’t been my best year but I’m just really grateful for the support I’ve had and for the club sticking by me.

“Now I’m eager to get to work and repay the faith over the next four years.”

Georgiades was awarded the Gavin Wanganeen Medal as the club’s best player under the age of 21 in 2021 – a year in which the West Australian booted 32 majors.

The 21-year-old was twice nominated for the AFL’s Rising Star award, and last season won the competition’s Mark of the Year.

He joins fellow 2019 draftees Miles Bergman and Dylan Williams in recommitting to Port Adelaide recently.

Dixon has been a key target in the Port Adelaide forward line since crossing to the club from Gold Coast at the end of the 2015 season.

The 32-year-old has booted 332 goals in his 202 AFL games despite regularly stepping into the ruck in recent seasons.

Three times the club’s leading goal kicker (in 2017, 2020 and 2021) and runner-up in the Coleman Medal in his 2020 All-Australian season, Dixon is looking to return from a foot injury to play a part in Port Adelaide’s finals campaign.

“I have always said I’ll keep playing footy as long as I am able to do what I can to help the team, and I’ve still got the passion to be out there with the boys,” said Dixon.

“I love this club and I’m excited to stick around and see what we can achieve together as a group.”

Port Adelaide List Manager Jason Cripps said the club was pleased to retain the duo.

“Charlie is a heart and soul player who continues to give his all for our club,” said Cripps.

“He’s played an important role in helping develop our next generation of forwards including Mitch, who is an exciting player with a lot of promise.

“While we haven’t had an opportunity to see the best of Mitch’s talent in 2023, he is still young and has plenty of development in front of him.

“We’re pleased to be able to see both Charlie and Mitch continue their time at Port Adelaide.”
