AHEAD of Port Adelaide’s Best and Fairest count on Friday night, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at who is in contention for the John Cahill and A.R. McLean medals.

The A.R. McLean Medal is awarded to Port Adelaide's best and fairest player in the SANFL. After the completion of every game, Port Adelaide's SANFL coaches and SANFL Manager Shane Grimm cast their votes, rating each player's performance between 0-5, with a maximum of 20 and minimum of 20 votes per player per game awarded.

The same process is undertaken in the AFL, with the Power's best and fairest player receiving the John Cahill Medal.

A. R. McLean contender - Jack Trengove

Jack Trengove started the SANFL season on fire, collecting 30 disposals or more in his first seven games, before injuring his leg against Glenelg in round eight.

Trengove missed five games with a lacerated quad, which will halt his momentum for the best and fairest award.

However, the 28-year-old then returned strong performances against Woodville-West Torrens, Sturt and Central District to complete the home-and-away season.

The Naracoorte product was also the Magpies’ highest vote-getter in the Magarey Medal count with 15 votes.

Trengove’s standout performances:

Round 1 vs West Adelaide - 44 disposals, 11 tackles, seven marks, one goal

Round 2 vs South Adelaide - 42 disposals, 13 marks, 10 tackles

Round 3 vs North Adelaide - 35 disposals, 14 marks
