PORT ADELAIDE farewells Jade De Melo, Jade Halfpenny, Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap, Maggie MacLachlan and Jacqui Yorston, with the quintet informed they will not receive contracts for 2024.

Forwards De Melo and Halfpenny had limited opportunity to break into a fit forward line, with the pair playing one game each this season.

Both players joined Port Adelaide in its inaugural NAB AFLW year, with De Melo recruited from North Adelaide and Halfpenny from Norwood.

Cockatoo-Motlap played one game in 2022 alongside twin sister Litonya, but the 20-year-old wasn’t selected in the 21 in her second season.

MacLachlan was picked up from Fremantle last year and was named in seven games over two seasons at the Power.

The young defender was unable to break back into the team in the back half of this season, hampered by injury and form.

Midfielder Jacqui Yorston played every game in Season 7 before taking a break from football and being placed on the club’s inactive list for 2023.

The 23-year-old has not been offered a new contract for next season.

List manager Naomi Maidment thanked the five players for their contribution to the club.

“This time of year is always challenging, as difficult decisions need to be made regarding our list,” Maidment said.

“We thank Jade, Jade, Laquoiya, Maggie and Jacqui for their commitment to Port Adelaide and wish them all the very best for the next chapter.”

The 2023 AFLW Trade Period will run from Thursday, December 7 until Thursday, December 14, while the Draft will be held at Marvel Stadium on Monday, December 18.
