Port Adelaide midfielder Jason Horne-Francis has been named in the AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 40-player squad.

It’s the third time the 22-year-old has been selected in the preliminary squad, and it will be his second time in the final 22, if selected.

Horne-Francis has played 15 games this season, before a fractured foot ended his year early in Round 18 against West Coast.

Showing his grit and toughness, he managed to play out the game after sustaining the injury in the first half, coming back to score two crucial goals, including a stunner from the pocket.

Averaging almost 21 disposals, 4.6 inside-50s and 4.6 clearances per game this year, it can be hard to remember Horne-Francis is in only in his fourth year in the AFL system.

He is the only Power player to make the side this year.

The 22Under22 is a fan-voted concept that recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season (including grand final day), who have played at least 50 per cent of home-and-away matches.

The 40-player squad is chosen by chair of selectors, Leigh Montagna and an AFLPA internal selection panel, with support from Champion Data.

Voting is now open here, and closes at 11:59pm AEST on Wednesday, August 13.
