Amon looking forward to game number 50

PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Karl Amon is set for his 50th AFL appearance when the Power head to Perth to face Fremantle at Optus Stadium in Round 13.

Amon - who was drafted with pick 68 in the 2013 draft - admits it has taken him a little longer to reach the milestone than he would’ve liked, but it is one he is proud of.

“It’s a milestone I’ve been looking forward to for a little while,” Amon told portadelaidefc.com.au

“It’s taken its time to get there but it’s here and I’m pretty happy about it.

“I’ve been pretty happy with my form but there is certainly room to improve.”

The 24-year-old has always been renowned for his running ability and high fitness levels, but Amon says his improvement this season is due to the hard work he put in in the off-season.

“It has come off a pretty strong pre-season that I had,” he said.

“Obviously I had the knee in Round 2, which sort of came at a frustrating time, but for me to build that confidence back up and form as well has been nice.”

Port has just had its mid-season bye, and while the majority of the group got away for a couple of days and switched off, co-captain Ollie Wines and key forward Charlie Dixon returned from injury in the SANFL.

It’s something that Amon said meant a lot to the entire football club.

“It was good to see them running around again, especially Charlie,” he said.

“The long length that he had out from the broken leg, and Ollie to come back as well and have a really strong performance.

“It was good to see them come back and put in a good performance, and put pressure on spots in the AFL team.”

Port Adelaide faces the Dockers at Optus Stadium in Round 13 on Saturday afternoon from 4.05pm ACST.
