Young midfield star Shineah Goody has committed her long-term future to Port Adelaide, signing a new three-year contract extension that will keep her at Alberton until at least the end of the 2029 AFLW season.
Already regarded as one of the competition's brightest young talents, Goody has quickly established herself as a cornerstone of Port Adelaide's emerging AFLW program after an outstanding first two seasons at the club.
The Yorke Peninsula product arrived at Alberton as part of the club's Expansion Under-18 Talent Pathway pre-signing period in 2023 after starring for Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFLW.
She announced herself on the AFLW stage with a standout debut in the 2024 season-opening Showdown, collecting 15 disposals and kicking a goal to earn the Round 1 AFLW Rising Star nomination.
Goody finished her breakout year runner-up in the league's Rising Star award while claiming Port Adelaide's Best First Year Player award.
The 20-year-old has continued her rapid development, becoming one of the competition's most exciting young midfielders through her toughness at the contest, clean ball use and composure under pressure.
Port Adelaide’s Head of AFLW Dan Merrett said securing Goody for the long term was a significant result for the club.
"Shineah has exceeded every expectation since arriving at our football club and we're thrilled she'll continue her journey with us for at least another three seasons," Merrett said.
"She's an incredibly driven person who is constantly looking to improve, and we've already seen enormous growth in her game in a short period of time.
"Her ability to win the ball, compete fiercely around the contest and use it so effectively makes her an exciting player, but it's equally her character and professionalism that make her such an important part of our program.”
Goody said the decision to extend her contract was an easy one.
"I couldn't be happier to be staying at Port Adelaide," Goody said.
"From the moment I arrived at the club, everyone has made me feel so welcome and I've loved being part of this group.
"We've built something really special together over the past couple of years and I genuinely believe we're only just getting started.
"I'm excited by where this program is heading, and I want to be part of helping this club achieve sustained success. I can't wait to keep growing as a player alongside this group and see what we can accomplish over the next few years."
Goody's re-signing provides another significant boost for Port Adelaide as the club continues to build a professional and talented core group of players.
