Port Adelaide spearhead Mitch Georgiades has penned a fresh two-year extension, taking his time at Alberton through to at least the end of 2029.
The 24-year-old was already contracted for 2027, with the native West Australian turning his back on rival interest and committing to senior coach Josh Carr’s vision for the future.
Georgiades’ form over the past three years since returning from a serious knee injury has been admirable, kicking no less than 44 goals each season.
In 2026, he’s scored 46 majors from 20 games and currently leads the competition for most marks inside 50 with 76.
Georgiades’ endurance, leading patterns and ability to fly above packs make him tough to defend, while his reliability and professionalism are what makes him a great teammate.
He was added to the broader leadership group this season, in recognition of his growth on and off the field.
“I am really excited to be sticking around at Port Adelaide,” Georgiades said.
“This place feels like home to me. I’ve got my best mates here, and I believe in what we’re building.
“I love the people at Port Adelaide and it’s been really cool seeing the growth of the young forwards, and knowing I can help lead them into the future.
“Josh Carr is a strategic, composed and smart coach and I’m looking forward to playing under him for the next few years.”
Drafted in 2019 at pick 18, Georgiades has since made 112 senior appearances, and last year placed runner-up in the club’s best and fairest count and was named in the All-Australian squad of 44.
He also represented his home state of WA in February’s AFL Origin clash.
Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps was thrilled to see Georgiades commit to the Power for an additional two years.
“Mitch has become a highly valued leader of our forward line over the last three seasons,” Cripps said.
“His work-rate, athleticism and willingness to get better is what makes him the player he is, and he’s a popular figure among his teammates.
“Mitch is a fantastic mentor to our young forwards and will continue to be an important part of our attack in the years to come.
“We look forward to seeing what he can achieve in Port Adelaide colours.”
Georgiades’ commitment comes just weeks after young key forward Jack Whitlock secured his future at the club until 2032.
