PORT ADELAIDE and Foodbank will team up when Port hosts Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval in Round 19.

Foodbank is encouraging all fans to bring food donations this weekend and place them in the purple donation bins around the ground to help fight hunger issues for people in need.

Foodbank volunteers will also be at the gates around the ground, and the Mobile Food Hub will be located on the Southern Plaza.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief and food rescue organisation. It’s most recent 2018 Hunger Report revealed that a staggering 117,260 South Australians are accessing food relief every month – 27 percent of them children. Last year, the organisation provided over five million meals to South Australians.

Donations of cans of food or vegetables, or non-perishable items such as cans of tuna, long life milk, rice or cereal, will go a long way to making a big difference.

Foodbank SA chief executive officer Greg Pattinson says the support of the Port Adelaide family will go a long way in helping support people in need.

“We need help to fill the shelves of our Foodbank Mobile Food Hub. We know there are areas we are currently not getting to, areas where people are experiencing food insecurity,” he said.

“In the next few weeks our Mobile Food Hub will head to the Barossa Valley, Campbelltown and Port Adelaide. At present we are currently only meeting 6% of the current levels of demand in the Barossa area and 28% of demand in the Port area, so there is much work to do.

“The people accessing this food relief, are people in genuine need and could even be your friend or neighbour.”

Foodbank SA volunteers will be on site before the game and will be available to answer any questions about Foodbank SA and the work they do in the community.
