KARL Amon and Darcy Byrne-Jones have signed contract extensions tying them to Port Adelaide beyond the end of this season.

Amon will remain a Power player until at least the end of the 2017 season, while Byrne-Jones has inked a commitment until the end of next year.

Both 19-year-olds are yet to play an AFL game for Port Adelaide, but have each established themselves as regular contributors at SANFL level.

They were selected in the team that lost last year’s SANFL Grand Final, and each played the majority of the season in the club’s famous black-and-white jumper.

Amon has played 20 SANFL games, while Byrne-Jones is one game behind on 19 appearances.

Port Adelaide’s development manager Aaron Greaves says the reward of contract extensions for the pair is the result of hard work in their first year at the club.

“The first 12 months for both of them have been a very educational experience,” Greaves told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“They’ve got big futures with the club and in the AFL system and that’s why they’ve been rewarded with new contracts.”

Greaves has seen the pair develop the ‘behaviours’ now expected of all Port Adelaide footballers.

Now, their focus will be on producing consistent performances in 2015.

“They’ve put on size, both now train and behave like elite AFL footballers, and have developed elite habits,” Greaves said.

“Karl has shown good progression over pre-season and is able to transfer his training into games, which is going to help him achieve consistency.

“Darcy still continues to learn and work on his role, and he is working hard to take what he learns and apply it on game day as well.

“They’re both great people and we look forward to seeing what they can produce.”
