KANE MITCHELL will play against the Tigers on Friday night after Port Adelaide submitted to the AFL to elevate him to its senior list on Thursday.

The 26-year-old has arguably been Port Adelaide's most consistent SANFL players and senior coach Ken Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au his form in the state league was critical for his promotion.

Mitchell may have been elevated earlier, if not for a one-game suspension against Glenelg at the start of June.

"He's been in outstanding SANFL form," Hinkley said.

"To be honest, we were ready to upgrade him a few weeks ago but he obviously had a setback that meant we weren't able to.

"He thoroughly deserves the opportunity to come into our AFL side this week and we expect him to bring the same level of effort he has at the Magpies this year."

Mitchell's selection will be one of at least three changes, with Hinkley also confirming the returns of Jack Hombsch and Jay Schulz to the Power earlier this week.

Port Adelaide plays Richmond on Friday 1 July at 7.20pm at the Adelaide Oval.
